If a certain page on an Internet site does not load for some reason or if a link is not working, the visitor shall see an error page with some generic message. The page shall have nothing in common with the rest of the Internet site, which may make the visitor leave your website. A solution in cases like this is a function made available from some website hosting providers - the ability to set your own personalized error pages which shall have the exact same design as your website and which can contain any text or images that you'd like depending on the particular error. There are 4 standard errors that may occur and they involve these so-called HTTP status codes - 400, when your world-wide web browser sends a bad request to the server and it can't be processed; 401, if you're supposed to log in to see a page, but you haven't done this yet; 403, if you don't have an authorization to view a specific page; and 404, when a link that you've clicked leads to a file that doesn't exist. In each of these scenarios, website visitors shall be able to see your custom made content rather than a generic error page.
Custom Error Pages in Web Hosting
You'll be able to set up personalized error pages for all of your sites with ease when you use any of our web hosting. This can be done through the Hosted Domains part of the Hepsia Control Panel, provided with all accounts and once you go there, you'll be able to set your custom made pages independently for any domain or subdomain. You must upload the files to your account in advance and input the links to them through the process. This feature may be de-activated anytime and the options you shall be able to to pick from are a generic page from our system or a default Apache web server page. Tailor-made error pages can be set with an .htaccess file as well. The file should be put into the domain or subdomain folder and it should include some system code and links to the pages. If you aren't tech-savvy, you can copy the entire content required for the file from our Help section.
Custom Error Pages in Semi-dedicated Servers
If you host your sites in a semi-dedicated server account with us, you could set customized error pages for any of them easily via our in-house made Hepsia hosting CP. With a few mouse clicks inside the Hosted Domains section, you could modify the default setting from a system page to a personalized one for each of the four error types. All you should do is provide a link to every file which you have uploaded before that and then save the change. If necessary, you will be able to revert this change whenever you want and in exactly the same way. If you wish, you can use an .htaccess file too. It should be created/uploaded in the domain or subdomain folder linked to the website whose error pages you would want to change and the content for this kind of file can be found in our Help article on this matter.
